In Japan, there has long been a custom of showing thanks or respect by tying a congratulatory gift with red and white colored paper cord called a Mizuhiki. Each color of Mizuhiki cord has meanings, red means blood, and white means mother’s milk, then expressing the preciousness of life by tying them.

In this workshop, participants make and tie Mizuhiki cord made by used paper. More than 200 people have been involved in this workshop since 2009, and made up a part of this work.

This work of good wishes on the occasion of the Foreign Ministry sponsored “Japanese Year in Turkey 2010”, expressing a sign of friendship between the two countries.
