TRACES OF COLORS BY FEMALE ARTISTS

  • Series

In the series “Traces of Colors,” emerging from my solo exhibition at the Pola Museum of Art Atrium Gallery in 2018, the paintings  consist of overlapping layers of colors used in historical paintings one by one, akin to tracing the colors of these painters. Prompted  by an encounter with a work by Matsuoka Shizuno at the Nerima Art Museum in 2020, this evolved into the series “Traces of  Colors by Female Artists,” focusing on female artists who had few opportunities in male-centric Japanese art history. My hope is that through my work, retrospectively tracing the experiences and work of these women who were deprived of the  opportunity to create and exhibit, encourages the viewer to extend their imagination to questions of the past, and will lead to a  future where everyone can live among a diversity of options.
